This assessment and subsequent report informs the court of a child’s wishes and feelings in cases where parents no longer live together and continue to disagree about where their child should live or what contact they will have with the absent parent. A Section 7 Report is a report written by an Independent Social Worker in cases where an application has been made to the Court in accordance with The Children Act 1989 section 7. The Social Worker provides an independent evaluation and assessment of a situation and reports the findings to the Court. A Section 7 Report needs to contain background information with key facts and evidence that the child’s needs have been considered in accordance with the Welfare Checklist.
The Section 7 Report collates all the available evidence and information about the child’s situation and sets it out in the form of a comprehensive report advising the Court of the child’s wishes and feelings and the Social Workers conclusions as to what is in the child’s best interests.
